Being Brave

I will be starting the New Year on a plane to Uganda;  I guess you could say bravery is my New Years resolution. Flying has always been something that makes me incredibly nervous (full disclosure: in the past two years I've cried on half of the planes I've been on).  However, I firmly believe that God called me to go to Uganda. When I was a senior in high school, I went on a college visit to Dordt. I met with a professor and asked her what the study abroad options looked like for a social work student. I was told all about lots of different programs, but Uganda seemed to stick out. Granted I thought it stuck out because "I will never go there because that would be scary and way too far outside of my comfort zone." That being said I'm learning the truth of the saying "if you want make God laugh, tell him your plans." Little by little, the country of Uganda came into my head and my heart. The news had a story on Uganda, my church had a children's choir with Ugandan ties come perform, a t-shirt brand that supports Uganda came up on my news feed and so many more examples. Since I really don't believe in coincidences, I decided to take the leap of faith and will be taking  classes and doing an internship through Uganda Christian Univeristy.  This next year will be about being brave and I am getting on that plane in nineteen days (and I'm actually kinda looking forward to it).
